Bible: Genesis 13: 8-11
Title: Two Roads of Faith
Passage to Memorize: “Is not the whole land before you?  Please separate from me; if to the left then I will go to the right; or if to the right then I will go to the left.” (Genesis 13:9)

1. In the flesh Abraham is the uncle while Lot is his nephew.  In faith they are fellow members who both began their faith at the same time.  Since the past and to the present these two people are the models and forefathers to all the believers in this world.
   For the past several thousand years and until now all believers are following these roads.  By faith Abraham became the forefather of success while Lot became the forefather of failure.  There are those who follow the faith of Abraham and receive both salvation and blessings and those who follow Lot which is walking in a path that leads one to be cursed and receive a salvation of failure.
   Everyday we are walking in one of these two roads.  The reason the Lord recorded the faith of these two people in the Bible is so that we may not face destruction like Lot but so that we may follow Abraham and achieve a blessed salvation.

2. When God commanded Abraham and Lot to leave Haran and go to the land of Bethel to live there they were tested by the famine.  Since they were not able to overcome the test they went to Egypt.  However going there proved to be a big disaster so they repented for taking such an action and returned to Bethel and God blessed them the moment they left for Bethel and continued to bless them while they lived in the land of Bethel and the two became very wealthy owning large amount of possessions as well as many servants.  At that time the two were tested again because there was quarreling between the workmen thus there was a struggle between the uncle and the nephew.

3. At this moment these two people’s road of faith became divided.
           (1) Abraham did not think about siding with humans
           but thought about siding with God so that he would
           not displease God.  Abraham pleased God by
           allowing Lot to choose as he wished.  Lot however
           did not think about siding with God but thought
           about people although this would make God sad
           because he wanted to satisfy his family and people  
           by choosing Sodom which had good soil while
           Abraham chose Canaan which contained bad soil.

(2) Lot followed the opinions of his family shepherds
           and many other people which led him to choose the
           principle of compromise while Abraham did not
           follow the opinions of many people but followed the
           opinion of the one and only God which led him to
           choose the principle of faith.

(3) Lot at the present time chose what he could see  
           and desired such as the possessions and conditions
           thus walked the path of materialism while Abraham
           did not consider the good conditions he could see
           but considered the blessings of God to be much
           bigger and believed that he could control everything
           thus chose the path of blessing.  We the believers
           are faced with these two roads in our realities and
           depending on which road we choose will decide our
           success or failure.

4. Lot lost all his possessions and servants.  He became poor because his possessions were plundered during the war and because they were destroyed by the rains of the burning sulfur.  His wife became a pillar of salt his two sons-in-law were destroyed and his two daughters became unreasonable sinners.  Lot therefore ended up becoming a shameful believer.
Abraham became so wealthy that he owned 318 bodyguards that guarded his house.  His trained men were able to defeat the powerful countries that were in alliance in which the 5 countries could not defeat previously.  As a result all of his family members became saints and Abraham became the forefather of blessing to all the believers in the world.  Anyone who is a believer at the moment will go to heaven to be with Abraham and become the children of faith.  Let us always be aware that choosing one of these two roads will either lead us to success or failure.  Therefore we must live wisely.

1. (두 신앙 노선)

아브라함은 삼촌이고 롯은 조카인데 둘은 신앙생활을 같이 시작한 동지이다.
두 사람의 신앙 걸음은 지금까지 모든 믿는 사람의 두 가지 표본이니 두 사람은 신앙의 두 조상이다.
수천 년 동안 내려오면서 세계에 있는 모든 믿는 사람은 이 두 신앙 걸음 중에 하나를 따르고 있다.

아브라함은 믿음으로 걸어 갔으니 모든 성공한 신앙인의 조상이 되었고
롯은 모든 믿는 사람의 실패 조상이 되었다.
믿는 사람은 아브라함의 신앙을 따라 구원과 축복을 받는 신자도 있고
롯을 따라 저주와 구원에 실패 길을 걷는 사람도 있다.
우리는 이 둘 중에 어느 노선이든지 매일 매일 걷고 있는 우리들이다.
주님께서 이 두 사람의 신앙 걸음을 성경에 기록해 주신 것은 롯과 같이 멸망하지 않고
아브라함을 따라 복된 구원을 이루어 가도록 하신 것이다.

2. (노선 분리의 배경)

아브라함과 롯이
하나님의 명령에 따라 하란에서 출발하여 벧엘로 가서 살 때 흉년으로 시험을 만났다.
그런데 시험을 이기지 못하고 애굽으로 내려갔다가 큰 일을 당하고 회개했다.
다시 벧엘로 돌아올 때부터 큰 축복을 주시고 벧엘에 있을 때에도 계속 복을 주셨다.
두 사람 다 재산과 노비가 많은 큰 부자가 되었다.
그때 두 사람은 일꾼들끼리 시비가 붙게 되어 삼촌과 조카 사이에 다시 시험을 당하게 되었다.

3. (노선 분리)

이 일로 인하여 두 사람은 각자 신앙 노선을 다르게 걷게 되었다.

(1) (신본주의 인본주의)
아브라함은 인간 편을 생각지 않고 하나님 편만 생각했다.
하나님을 노엽게 아니하고 기쁘시게 하려고 롯에게 그 소원대로 먼저 선택하라 했다.
롯은 하나님편은 생각지 아니하고 자기와 가족들과 주변 사람들만 좋게 하려고 소돔을 택했다.
하나님께서 롯을 섭섭하게 생각하셔도 롯은 아브라함이 박토 가나안으로 가게 했다.

(2) (믿음주의 여론주의)
롯은 가족들과 목자들과 주변 사람들의 의견을 따라서 타협주의로 결정했다.
아브라함은 사람의 의견을 따르지 않고 하나님 한 분의 의견을 따라가는 신앙주의의 길을 택했다.

(3) (축복주의 현실주의)
롯은 현재 눈에 보이는 재물과 조건과 희망을 택하였으니 유물주의의 길을 걸었고
아브라함은 보이는 모든 좋은 조건보다 하나님의 복이 더욱 크고 모든 것을 좌우한다고 축복주의를 택했다.

이렇게 3가지 면에서 아브라함과 롯은 각각 다른 길을 걸어 갔으니
우리 믿는 사람들은 만나는 현실에서 항상 두 길 중 하나를 택하게 되고 흥망이 결정된다.

4. (두 노선의 결과)

롯은
소돔에 갔다가 재산과 노비가 다 없어졌고 또 전쟁에서 다 빼앗겼고
마지막에는 유황불비에서 남은 재산조차 완전히 없어지는 거지가 되었고
아내는 소금 기둥이 되고 두 사위는 죽었고 두 딸은 망령된 죄인이 되어 롯은 부끄러운 신자로 끝마쳤다.

아브라함은
거대한 부자가 되어 자기 집 지키는 군대가 318명이나 되었고
5대 연맹국이 이기지 못한 강한 4대 연맹국을 자기 집 훈련병으로 격퇴하였고
모든 가족들은 다 신앙의 성자와 성녀들이 되었고 천하 만민의 복의 조상이 되었다.
누구나 믿는 사람은 하늘나라로 가면 일단 아브라함 품에 안기게 되는 믿음의 자손이 되는 것이다.
우리는 이 두 노선에서 흥망이 하나도 빠짐없이 이대로 되는 사실을 알고 지혜롭게 살아야 한다.

1. 아브라함과 롯은 육신으로는 숙질간이요 믿음으로는 믿음을 같이 시작한 동지이다. 이 두사람은 옛날부터 지금까지 온 천하에 믿는 사람의 두 표본이요 두 조상이다. 수천년 동안내려오면서 세계에 믿는 모든 사람은 이 노선을 따르고 있다. 아브라함은 믿음으로 모든 성공자의 조상이 되었고 롯은 모든 믿는 사람의 실패자의 조상이 되었다. 누구나 아브라함의신앙을 따라 구원과 축복을 받는 신자도 있고 롯을 따라 저주와 구원의 실패의 길을 걷는사람도 있다. 우리는 이 둘 중에 어느 노선이든지 매일 매일 걷고 있는 우리들이다.
주님께서 이 두 사람의 신앙 걸음을 성경에 기록해 주신 것은 롯과 같이 멸망하지 않고 아브라함을 따라 복된 구원을 이루어 가도록 하신 것이다.

2. 아브라함과 롯이 하나님의 명령에 따라 하란에서 출발하여 벧엘에 가서 살 때에 흉년으로 시험을 만났다. 시험을 못 이기고 애굽으로 내려갔다가 큰 변을 보고 회개하고 다시 벧엘로 돌아올 때부터 큰 축복을 주시고 벧엘에 있을 때에도 계속 축복하여 두 사람이 다 재산과 노비가 많은 큰 부자가 되었다. 그때에 두 사람이 다시 시험을 당하게 되어 일꾼들의시비로 숙질간까지 다툼이 생기게 되었다.

3. 이때부터 두 사람의 신앙 노선은 갈라지게 되었다.
(1) 아브라함은 인간편을 생각지 않고 하나님편을 생각하여 하나님을 노엽게 아니하고 기쁘시게 하려 하여 롯에게 자기 소원대로 선택하라 하였고 롯은 하나님편은 생각지 아니하고사람 자기들만 생각하여 하나님은 섭섭하실지라도 가족들과 사람들 좋게만 하기 위하여 옥토 소돔 들을 택하고 아브라함은 박토 가나안을 차지했다.
(2) 롯은 가족들과 목자들과 그 많은 사람들의 의견을 따라서 결정한 타협주의를 택했고 아브라함은 많은 사람의 의견을 따르지 않고 하나님 한 분의 의견을 따른 신앙주의의 길을 택했다.
(3) 롯은 현재 보이는 재물과 조건과 희망을 택하여 유물주의의 길을 걸었고 아브라함은 보이는 모든 좋은 조건보다 하나님의 축복이 더욱 크고 모든 것을 좌우할 수 있는 것임을 믿어 축복주의의 길을 택하였다. 이것이 우리 각 신자들이 만나는 현실 현실에서 두 길 중 어느 것이나 하나 택하는 데에서 흥망이 결정되는 것이다.

4. 롯은 재산과 노비는 다 없어졌고 또 전쟁에서 다 빼앗겼고 또 유황불비에서 재산은 완전거지되고 아내는 소금 기둥되고 두 사위는 사망했고 두 딸은 망령된 죄인이 되었고 롯도 부끄러운 신자로 끝마쳤다. 아브라함은 대 거부가 되어 자기 집 지키는 군대가 삼백십팔 명이나 되었고 오대 연맹국이 이기지 못한 강한 연맹국을 자기 집 훈련병으로 격퇴하였고 모든가족들은 다 신앙의 성자와 성녀들이 되었고 천하 만민의 복의 조상이 되었다. 누구나 믿는사람은 하늘나라로 가면 일단 아브라함 품에 안기게 되는 믿음의 자손이 되는 것이다. 우리는 이 두 노선에서 흥망이 하나도 빠짐없이 이대로 되는 사실을 알고 지혜롭게 살아야 한다.
